How We Work

A Structured Approach to IP Protection

Every intellectual property matter requires accuracy, strategic thinking, and careful execution. Horiant approaches each matter by understanding the business context, assessing the relevant IP opportunities and risks, executing the appropriate protection strategy, and providing ongoing review and support.

Understand

We begin by understanding your business, technology, objectives, markets, and specific requirements to establish the context for the matter.

Assess & Strategize

We evaluate the relevant IP, risks, opportunities, and protection options, then define a practical strategy aligned with your objectives.

Execute

We move the strategy into action through the appropriate protection, filing, prosecution, coordination, or portfolio work.

Review & Support

We review outcomes, identify next steps, and continue supporting maintenance, monitoring, portfolio management, and longer-term IP needs where required.

From the first assessment to ongoing protection, Horiant stays focused on what your IP needs next.

Common IP Decisions

What IP question are you trying to answer?

Every IP matter starts with a question. Start with the one closest to your situation to understand what to consider and where to go next.

  • Should I patent this?

Understand whether an invention may be protectable and what to consider before moving forward with a patent strategy.

  • How should I protect my brand?

Consider names, logos, product brands, service brands and brand portfolios across relevant markets.

  • How should I protect my product?

Consider patents, industrial designs, ownership and confidentiality as part of the product's protection strategy.

  • How should I protect my IP internationally?

Consider filing routes, target-country priorities, international coordination and portfolio management.

  • I already have IP. What should I review?

Review existing rights, deadlines, legal status, protection gaps and portfolio needs as the business evolves.

  • Not sure which question is yours?

Tell us where things stand. We will help you clarify what to protect, where to act and what risks to address first.

FAQs

Questions we hear most often

Straight answers to the things people usually ask before their first conversation with us. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.

  • We help you work out what's worth protecting, where, and when, before you spend money on it. That can mean reviewing an invention, clearing a brand name, mapping a portfolio or planning international filings. When it's time to act, we prepare and coordinate the filings and keep track of them afterwards.

  • Not at all. Most people come to us with a rough question, like "is this worth patenting?" or "can we use this name?". Working out the right question is part of the job, and a first conversation is usually enough to see what's involved.

  • We're an IP intelligence and strategy practice. Where a formal legal opinion, representation or a hearing is required, we coordinate with appropriately qualified patent attorneys, trademark attorneys, agents or local counsel, so you get one joined-up process rather than several separate ones.

  • Startups and growing companies, established corporates, universities and research organizations, and investors looking at a company's IP. The questions differ a lot between them, but the starting point is the same: what matters commercially, and what's worth protecting because of it.

  • Yes. We treat everything you share as confidential from the first conversation, and we're happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement before you tell us anything sensitive. For an unfiled invention, that's a sensible step anyway.
