A clearer direction for intellectual property.
Horiant helps businesses, innovators and organisations understand, protect, manage and build value around their intellectual property. We start with what matters to the business, before significant resources are committed.

Our perspective
IP is more than a right. It is an asset that needs direction.
Intellectual property usually begins as something else: an invention in development, a name on a product, a design, a piece of software, a research result. Before it can be protected or used, it has to be recognised for what it is, and its potential and its risks understood.
Protection follows from that understanding. The right form and scope depend on what the asset is, where it will be used and what the business needs from it. Once rights are filed or registered, they need renewals, records and monitoring to stay useful.
Each step shapes the next. Our work is to keep them connected, so that protection, maintenance and commercial use all serve the same objectives.

How we think about IP
Four principles behind the way we work.
They describe the approach we intend to bring to every enquiry, whatever its size.
Understand before acting
Start with the invention, the brand, the business context or the problem itself, before recommending a course of action.
Protect with purpose
Choose the form and scope of protection in light of what the client is trying to achieve, not by default.
Manage beyond filing
Treat rights as things that need administration, monitoring, renewals and portfolio decisions long after they are filed.
Connect IP to business value
Consider how intellectual property relates to innovation, competition, risk, ownership and commercial opportunity.
Our areas of work
Six areas of IP support.
An overview of where we work. Each area has its own services, which the Services page sets out in full.

Working with us
How an engagement generally runs.
Every requirement is different, so the work is shaped to it. Most engagements move through four broad stages.
Understand
Clarify your objectives, the assets involved, your current position and what you need.
Assess
Identify the relevant considerations, the potential risks and the options available.
Recommend
Set out a course of action suited to the specific requirement, including when to wait.
Support
Carry out the agreed work and help with any ongoing management it calls for.
Before you commit
Understand the landscape.Then decide.
What surrounds an asset matters as much as the asset itself: earlier rights, competitors' filings, the markets it will enter and the risks along the way.
